Introduction

Demystify the construction process and build with confidence.

Most renovation headaches stem from a lack of practical, on-site experience. This course closes that gap, taking you ‘behind the scaffolding’ for a step-by-step walkthrough of the entire residential build.

Grounded in the direct “insider” knowledge of experienced builders and trades, you’ll learn the actual sequence of a project, the roles of the various consultants and contractors, and—crucially—your specific responsibilities to keep the job moving.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Contractual Clarity: Understand your critical obligations under a building contract
  • Effective Communication: Learn how to provide trades with the information they need to prevent delays.
  • Site Readiness: Gain the confidence to visit a site and engage with the team professionally.
  • Long-term Maintenance: Receive advice on effective, environmental products to maintain your home’s condition for the long term.

This course is designed for those who want to understand the reality of a construction site:

  • For Homeowners & Renovators: You will gain the vocabulary to speak with your builder as a peer, understand what you are paying for, and know exactly when your decisions are needed to avoid costly delays.
  • For Architecture Students: This course provides the practical “on-site” context. You will learn the sequencing of trades and the contractual realities that turn a set of documents into a physical structure.
